Telemedicine and Laboratory Diagnostics – Simple, Safe, and Efficient
The rapid digitalization of healthcare is revolutionizing the way patients access medical care and an increasing number of healthcare professionals are embracing telemedicine to offer remote consultations. While medical histories can be easily gathered online, laboratory diagnostics remain a challenge. However, lab tests are crucial for accurate diagnoses, tracking treatment progress, and evaluating the effectiveness of therapies.
- How can laboratory diagnostics be effectively integrated into telemedicine
- How do sample collection and shipping materials reach the patient and return to the lab?
After consulting with a patient, the healthcare provider determines which tests are needed. Using the new online portal on the Biovis website, they complete the digital Telemedicine Request Form and send it via email to: telemed@biovis.de
The request form includes all relevant stool, urine, and saliva tests. Blood tests are limited to minimally invasive sampling, leveraging advanced capillary blood analysis to measure a broad range of vital blood parameters from small sample volumes. Particularly sensitive markers are analysed using dried blood spot technology (BloodSpot) for enhanced accuracy and stability.
Once the telemedicine request form has been emailed to us, our logistics department assembles all necessary collection and shipping materials and dispatches them to the patient, along with the request form, via a trusted logistics provider (TNT). The patient then collects their samples, signs the consent form, and returns the materials to biovis using the included return shipping bag.
The request form ensures that all samples are correctly assigned to the respective healthcare provider. Once the tests are completed, the provider receives the results—creating a seamless process from sample collection to diagnosis.
To assist patients with sample collection, detailed instructions and instructional videos are available on our website.
With this service, we aim to make it easier than ever to integrate laboratory diagnostics into telemedicine.
